I like to keep things simple, so I don’t get too fancy when it comes to my drinks. I’m no cocktail connoisseur or mixologist or any of that…just give me the drink and I’ll likely drink it. Except, perhaps, when it comes to bourbon.
I’ve never had a mint julep before, but of course I knew it was “the” drink of the Kentucky Derby. Why mint julep day is so late in May when it’s tied to a specific event on another day is beyond me. Anywho, I figured that day was the perfect opportunity to try one, so apologies if you were actually expecting me to be drinking a mint julep today. I wasn’t even quite sure what went into the drink aside from mint, obviously. But now I know that it’s just straight up bourbon for the most part, and I believe I’ve had my first and last mint julep. The face I made was something like this:
I think it’s safe to say I don’t belong in the south. Bourbon is definitely not my thing.
