Today is National Margarita Day! After spending an entire weekend at cheerleading competitions with peppy, screaming children covered in glitter …. I need a margarita. Desperately. So today, I’ll share a recipe for Peach Margaritas.
The key to a perfect margarita (and any cocktail, really) is finding a good ratio. Rather than worrying about exact measurements, think about balancing the different parts of a drink. A great margarita needs four things: tequila, triple sec, simple syrup and lime juice. I like a 2:2:1:1 ratio – two parts each of tequila and triple sec, and one part each of simple syrup and lime juice. Start by measuring out two parts of tequila and of triple sec. For this recipe, which is peach flavored and serves 4-6 people, I used 1 cup tequila and 1 cup of peach schnapps. For a plain margarita, just use regular triple sec, or try other flavored liquors for different flavors!
Next, add in 1/2 cup of simple syrup and fresh lime juice. Fresh lime juice is key here. The pre-bottled stuff just doesn’t have the tart flavor a good margarita needs. I always throw the juiced limes into the pitcher, too, to add in a little more flavor.
Finally, add ice to your picture and give everything a good stir. To serve, rim glasses in either salt or sugar. I love the bite of salt with the sweetness of a peach margarita, but sugar works well too.
Enjoy your margarita … hopefully without the addition of screaming children.
