When I originally saw this holiday, all I could think about was a cup of boiling rum with a stick of butter in it. I was not excited about that. Good thing that’s not actually what this is.
It’s a little bit of butter, nutmeg, cinnamon, ground cloves, and brown sugar. Mix with dark rum and boiling water, garnish with cinnamon sticks and star anise. Voila, hot buttered rum:
My verdict? I actually really liked this. I was surprised. Rum is my hard liquor of choice, but I can’t say I’ve ever had it hot before. But on a cold winter evening, this really hit the spot.
