National Pots de Creme Day

I was especially excited for this day. I had never heard of pots de crème, but as soon as I looked it up, I knew this would be something I’d like. I found this recipe and it seemed easy enough. I should never give myself that much credit though, as I still managed to find a way to screw it up. It’s just my way.

I obviously switched out the rum for Nutella. Could that have been my downfall? I don’t see how.

I think it started with the fact that I don’t have a real blender. I have my Oster blender, which is good for smoothies, but not so great for blending chocolate chips. I did get it mixed to a manageable level, though.

I mixed it with the boiled milk, I poured it into another Bobby Flay ramekin (I have never used those things before I started this blog). Then I put it in the fridge to set while I had a bitch of a time cleaning up the blender.

I let it set overnight. When I went to check on it this morning, this is what I found:

My verdict? I don’t know what I did wrong, or why it didn’t set. But I do know one thing: this was delicious. Seriously, seriously tasty. Anything involving chocolate and Nutella usually is. I would definitely try this again. I’m not even mad that it didn’t go according to plan.

Does anyone have any advice on how to make pots de crème correctly? Any ideas on what I did wrong? All help is welcome. And, please, share your own recipes if you have one!

  1. Maybe the oil in the Nutella changed the consistency? That is the only thing I could think of. But hey, more experimenting means more chocolate and you can’t go wrong with more chocolate…ever.
